Egypt’s tourism & antiquities min.: Royal Carriages Museum to be restored in a month

CAIRO – 5 July 2020: Egypt’s Minister of Tourism & Antiquities Khaled el-Anani confirmed that the project of developing the Royal Carriages Museum in Bulaq started in the year 2001, but it came to a halt like many other projects.

“I visited the place 2 years ago and found the wheels and vehicles in the warehouse. The place is abandoned and our colleagues (in the ministry) lost hope in reopening it. But I assure everyone that the museum will be completed in a month," Said Anani during an inspecting tour at the museum on July 5.

Anani further stated that the restoration works in the abandoned museum cost up to LE 63 million. He confirmed that the restoration works brought back the place to life after it had been completely neglected.

In addition, Anani made it clear that he is confident that the Egyptians will love to visit this place and that school trips will prefer this location to teach students about the history of their country.

The minister pointed out that he received numerous complaints demanding an increase in the number of visitors to the museum. 

“These complaints please me because they indicate the success of the Supreme Council of Antiquities in raising the Egyptians' awareness,” commented Anani.

It is noteworthy that the Royal Carriages Museum was established during the reign of Khedive Ismail. Some amendments were made to it during the reign of King Fouad. The museum includes a group of royal carriages of different styles, which were used at the reception of the kings, ambassadors and nobles.
