CAIRO – 26 June 2017: Renowned Syrian singer Assala Nasri was arrested at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut on Sunday for carrying cocaine in her makeup bag.
Nasri denied that the drugs belonged to her, claiming she did not know who had put them in her bag. Nasri was found with 5 grams of cocaine in her bag, likely for personal use.
Following detainment, Nasri was released upon signing a pledge to undergo drug testing every time she visits Lebanon.
After she was released Nasri posted a picture on her Instagram account with the caption “Alhamdullelah” (thank God).

The famous Syrian singer was with her husband, well-known Egyptian director Tarek Elerian, on vacation in the Lebanese capital Beirut and bound for Egypt.
Artists support Nasri Egyptian singer Angham directed a message of support to Nasri on her Twitter account Sunday night, admitting that God always tests the faith of good people like Nasri. “My heart and my soul pray for you,” tweeted Angham.

Nasri, 48, is one of the most popular singers in the Arab world and the daughter of late Syrian artist Mustafa Nasri. Nasri is famous for her strong, melodious voice. Since the beginning of the Syrian Civil war in 2011, Nasri has supported the Syrian rebels and strongly opposed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
