CAIRO - 6 May 2020: The British Council in Cairo has announced the launch of a huge digital library for readers, free of charge. The British Council owns one of the largest and most valuable English libraries in Egypt.
The council is scheduled to include a large number of high-quality cultural works in various forms.
According to a statement issued by the British Council, the library includes films, plays and books. It also provides virtual visits to museums and tours of the Saqqara Pyramids via the internet.
With teaching centers temporarily closed, the global education expert took this step to continue to support English language learners with free online resources to help them improve their language skills.
Members over the age of 18 can register online and access thousands of newspapers, magazines, comics, theatrical works, famous and independent films, concerts, and electronic and audiobooks. Everything is available free-of-charge throughout the time span of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"In these difficult times, we want to continue to connect the Egyptians with the best British knowledge and resources. We believe that the future of the United Kingdom depends on people of all cultures who live and work together on the foundations of education, mutual understanding, respect and trust. Now, more than ever, we need to facilitate cultural exchange and cooperation. We invite you and your children to discover this wonderful treasure of creativity and culture - from your home,” said Elizabeth White, director of the British Council in Egypt.
The library also provides video-based training courses, as part of multiple online learning resources available within the library. Its goal is to provide members with the skills to prepare and motivate school students.
