Egypt’s Min. of Tourism & Antiquities prepares touristic sites in Aswan, Nubia for visits once COVID-19 pandemic is over

CAIRO - 5 May 2020: The outbreak of the novel coronavirus highly affected the movement of tourism all over the world, mainly due to the cessation of the aviation movement and the prevention of gatherings as precautionary measures against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism & Antiquities has made full use of the tourism hiatus, preparing the open sites for visits once life returns to normal.

Abdel Moneim Said, general manager of antiquities sector in Aswan and Nubia, said, “Weekly, the ministry sanitizes all open areas in Aswan, with the continuation of morning and evening patrols, to prevent any attacks on the antiquities in any way.”

"The restoration work is also carried out daily by a group of four or five individuals, taking all precautions, and wearing masks and gloves; all the suspended waste and dust is removed."

“Also, that time will be used to maintain a number of tourism services in the region,” explained Said.

Said further pointed out that all Egyptian missions in the western Aswan region and the Temple of Isis are continuing their work, but with a fewer number of workers, while taking precautionary measures, in accordance with the instructions of the Egyptian government to battle COVID-19.
