File - Be Meet Wesh poster.
CAIRO - 2 May 2020: A week into Ramadan and people are still unsure about what TV drama to follow and which one to avoid and we at Egypt Today have tried to round up a small collection of Ramadan series that we have been evaluating after seven episodes.
Forsa Tania (A Second Chance)
Forsa Tania tells the story of Malak, a young engineer who finds out that her fiancée is seeing another girl behind her back so she breaks their engagement and despite his endless pleas she refuses to forgive him. On the rebound the ex-fiancee decides to marry the other girl and on his wedding night Malak has a car accident resulting in her having some sort of amnesia. The series stars Yasmine Sabri, Ahmed Magdy, Edward, Ayten Amer, Diab, Heba Abdelghani, Mahmoud el-Bizawy, Ahmed El-Shamy, Mohamed Gomaa, and Nihal Anbar,
Rating; 5/10
Verdict: When Yasmine Sabry first appeared on our screen with Sherine Adel Wahab in the TV series 'Tareqi' she had such a promising start and many predicted a bright future for her but things have stood still for Sabry, possibly because dire have limited her talent in typecasting he in one dimensional role, which is often the middle class girl who falls and love and suffers the usual drama. Forsa Tania does not present a plot that grips the viewers in fact quite the opposite there is nothing that will keep you watching except maybe the performance of Ayten Amer who has proven that she is the real star of this series.
Game’e Salem
This is a puzzling series that has no real trigger of events but it is still an interesting one to follow. Game’e Salem follows the lives of three siblings who were orphaned as children and each went into different direction. The series stars Zeina, Dalal Abdel Aziz, Mohammed Shaheen, Salwa Khattab, Reem El-Baroudi, Malak Qura, Mido Adel, Mohamed Alaa, Sameh El-Serieti, and Mohammed Desouki.
Rating :7/10
Verdict : Although the series has great potential but at times you do feel its going into more than one direction which at times seem irrelevant. Mido Adel is exceptional in this series and probably one of the main reasons of why you should carry on watching it.
Leibet El-Nessyan (The Forgetting Game)
Leibet El-Nessyan can be described as a suspense thriller which follows the mystery of Rokaya played Dina El Sherbiny who is accused of adultery and being the indirect cause of her husband's death yet she can't remember anything as she suffers from memory loss. The series also stars Ingy Al-Moqaddem, Ahmed Dawood and Mahmoud Qabeil.
Rating : 8/10
Verdict: Of course you have to carry on watching for so many reasons not least because you have to find out the truth of this puzzling mystery. Also the great performance of all the cast especially Dina El Sherbiny and the child star who plays the role of Yehyia her son.
Lama Kona Soghayreen ( When we were young)
‘Lama Kona Sogayreen’ series is a mixture of suspense and murder mystery that focuses on five friends that have known each other since their teenage years yet as events unfolds it is apparent that this friendship is flawed with many secrets. The series stars Mahmoud Hemeida, Khaled el Nabawy, Riham Haggag, Nesrine Amin, Karim Kassem, Mahmoud Hegazy among others.
Rating:9/10
Verdict: Again, it is a must watch, although it seems to early for Riham Haggag to be one of the leading stars of the series but after 7 episodes she has proven to be up to the challenge as her acting skills have captured the viewers. Khaled El Nabawy is in his usual top element as is the master of all roles Mahmoud Hemeida. The series theme song performed by Sameera Saeed is another theme song this Ramadan that has exceeded expectations and is a big hit with viewers.
Be Meet Wesh (with 100 faces)
As the official comedy series this Ramadan have proven to be a big flop the surprise contender that stole the limelight of all the other comedy series is most definitely Be Meet Wesh starring Nelly Karim and Asser Yassin which after only few episodes has got viewers across the arab world hooked on the pairing.
Sukar and Omar are both con artist that join forces to pull off a job that would make them millionaires.
Rating: 9 or 10/10
Verdict: Right from its theme song that has become a social media trend to the indirect, not n your face comedy to the brilliant pairing of Yassen and Karim the series is a complete success. The other impressive element of the series is the rediscovery of Karim and Yassen depth and acting skills as with roles are quite new to them yet they have portrayed them so convincingly despite the fact that we the viewers are used to seeing them in heavy drama. Our advice is to watch every second of the series all the way to the end.
“Sukkar Zeyada” ( Extra Sugar)
There was a mixture of high expectations and huge reservations about the return of the Queens if the 80s cinema; Nadia el Gendy and Nabila Ebeid starring together in the TV series Sukkar Zeyada.
The series is categorized as a comedy taken from the American sitcom 'The Golden Girl's it follows the story of four women who are forced to live together in the same house after being conned into purchasing it. The series stars veteran Samiha Ayoub, Hala Fakher and many guests of honor, including Ahmed el-Sakka, Nancy Ajram, Haifa Wahbe, Ahmed Fahmy, Rogina, Joumana Mourad, Lekaa' el-Khamisy, Bayoumi Fouad, Hamdi el-Marghani, Mustafa Abu Saree, Mayan el-Sayed, Badria Tolba, Hanady Mehana, Khaled Anwar and Soliman Eid.
Rating: 4/10
Verdict: Although the first episode seemed like a good start and had real comic element but it went downhill soon after. Giving it 4/10 might seem generous and it only achieved that because El Genidy does seem to be the better element of the entire series alongside the actor who plays her on screen son, who has a very promising future ahead in the comedy sector.
