Sterilization works carried out in Alexandria, North Coast Archeological Zones

CAIRO - 23 April 2020: The Authority of the Alexandria Archeological Zone and the North Coast sanitized a number of archaeological sites affiliated to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.

Bab Rashid in Alexandria’s downtown and the eastern tower in Alexandria Stadium were sterilized as part of the precautionary measures taken to battle the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Authority of the Alexandria Archeological Zone and the North Coast previously sterilized a number of archaeological sites in April, including the Citadel of Qaitbay, Com Naaddourh, the Jewish Temple, the Control Center in the Abu Mina archaeological area, as well as the northern bath and the double bath, El-Madfan Monastery, Tomb of Saint Mina, Baptism Monastery, the guest houses and the residential village, in addition to numerous archaeological sites in Abu-Mina archaeological zone.

The Alexandria and North Coast Archaeological Zone Authority periodically monitors the status of the archaeological areas and the application of precautionary measures for workers in those areas.

Also, periodic work is done to sterilize archaeological areas, where the archeological area of Com Naaddourh was cleansed and sterilized for the second time to ensure the safety of workers in the area. Also, periodic follow up on the project to reduce the groundwater in the area and purify all wells to prepare them for operation is carried out.

On the other hand, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina has been continuously sterilizing and disinfecting its museum, while minimizing the number of the employees. Sterilization procedures will be followed in the museum until the COVID-19 crisis comes to an end.
