ET commemorates Sayed Zayan on his death anniversary

CAIRO - 13 April 2020: I don't think anyone would deny that the late star and comedian Sayed Zayan possessed many talents. Zayan started his artistic career with late Fouad el-Mohandes in “Sayidaty el-Gamila” (My Beautiful Lady).

It is known that Zayan also discovered the talent of famed comedian Mohammed Henedy. Zayan departed our world on April 13, 2016.

The late actor was a great theater enthusiast, and fiercely competed with legendary names such as Adel Imam, Samir Ghanem and Saeed Saleh during the 80s and 90s.

During the summer months, the plays performed by Zayan were usually fully booked. During the 80s and 90s, most plays came to a halt during the winter months; however, Zayan’s and Adel Imam’s plays continued to perform, achieving unprecedented success.

Zayan presented numerous theatrical plays, including “El-Askry el-Akhdar” (Green Soldier), “El-Fahlawy” (The Hustler), “El-Parachute”, “El-Qashash”, “Kahyoun Rabah El-Million” (Kahyoun Won The Million), “Khod el-Floos Wegry” (Take the Money and Run) and “Wahed Lamon Wel Tani Magnon”, among others.

The late comedian was the first to grant famed comedian Mohammed Henedy a role in the play "Abu Zeid" in 1985. After his success in the role, he presented Henedy in numerous other plays, as he strongly believed in his talent.

Zayan also presented the successful comedian Ahmed Adam to the theatrical scene until he managed to reach stardom.

Furthermore, Zayan was not only a brilliant comedian, he also had an easily-distinguished voice when singing folklore songs and when reciting the holy Quran. His dad wanted him to become a Quran reciter, and Zayan managed to memorize most of the holy Quran when he was only a teenager.

The late comedian also had a very strong religious streak. He performed the Hajj Pilgrimage in Mecca more than once, and also performed numerous Umras.

As he became ill towards the last years of his life, Zayan once again focused on his old companion, the holy Quran. The holy book remained his close companion until his demise on April 13, 2016.
