New archaeological discovery made during sterilization of Sphinx region

CAIRO - 31 March 2020: Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Mostafa Waziri announced a new archaeological discovery was made during the sterilization of the Sphinx region. The details are yet to be disclosed.

Furthermore, Waziri commented on lighting the Great Pyramid of Khufu (Pyramid of Cheops) on March 30, to send a message to the people of Egypt and the world to stay at home to confront the coronavirus outbreak.

In a phone call to “Sabah el-Khair Ya Masr” (Good Morning Egypt) broadcast on Egypt’s channel 1 on March 31, Waziri stated that Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled el-Anani is inspecting the sterilization of the Sphinx, confirming that they are sterilizing all the archaeological areas, and that all archeological sites are closed nationwide until April 15.

Waziri added that a number of local and international channels were invited to broadcast the lighting of the Pyramid of Cheops.
