GEM imposes daily strict safety measures on workers

CAIRO - 24 March 2020: General supervisor of the Grand Egyptian Museum project and the surrounding area Atef Moftah said the museum's health safety measures to fight the new coronavirus are implemented with great thoroughness.

Moftah further affirmed that any violation in this regard will not be tolerated, as the health of workers at the museum comes first.

The GEM’s general supervisor noted that all workers are checked during their admission in the morning and when they leave in the evening without any exceptions, using the laser thermometer.

Moftah pointed out that the daily routines of gathering the staff in the morning for the attendance check was cancelled as it violates the safety procedures. "No handshaking" banners were also placed, as any physical contact of any kind is prohibited.

The museum is sterilized daily, both internally and externally before the staff starts their work shifts. Work breaks are divided into three periods to avoid gathering in high numbers.

The sterilization process is once again completed after the work day is completed.

Moftah confirmed that Egypt, with all its entities working in full coordination, is implementing a tight plan to control the virus, stressing that no complacency will be accepted.

GEM’s supervisor also described the museum as the “Egyptian dream of the future” and that work in the museum is carried out in full swing professionally and scientifically, putting the individuals’ health first.
