Min. launches sterilization process in hotels

CAIRO - 18 March 2020: In light of the precautionary measures taken to confront the emerging coronavirus, the Chamber of Hotel Establishments coordinated with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Population started the procedures of disinfection and sterilization of hotels and tourist establishments of all kinds.

Head of the Chamber of Hotel Establishments Maged Fawzi explained that the Chamber started the purification and sterilization campaign as a preliminary stage for hotels in Hurghada governorate, moving on in the following week to the hotels in Luxor governorate, and so on, noting that the purification process takes place under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Population.

The process is implemented by special teams in each hotel trained in accordance with the international standards for sterilization procedures, using materials approved by the Ministry.

These teams sanitize all surfaces in contact with tourists, checked-in guests and hotel guests every 3 hours, in public areas, corridors, hotel rooms, elevators, stairs, doors and handles and other places in contact with people.

Fawzi also stressed that the German company TUV-Nord is now in the process of examining and inspecting hotels to ensure that the procedures for disinfection and sterilization are carried out according to the recognized international standards, which starts from the prevention period to the infection detection period and beyond.

As for the company PREVERISK, which will start its work on Friday in Luxor, will purify hotels and ensure the correctness and accuracy of the sterilization steps and ensure their efficiency, in addition to developing procedures and complete checklists for sterilization in hotels and Swamp Tests from selective areas in hotels (guest rooms, public places, restaurants, cafeterias, and entertainment spots).

Fawzi emphasized that the company will also train workers in methods of optimal performance in the event of detecting an infection in the hotel, by training employees and simulating viral infections.

There will also be awareness programs for hotel workers on ways of prevention and protection from the Coronavirus.
