95% of Egyptian Museum’s development work completed

CAIRO - 26 January 2020: Head of the Central Department for Engineering Affairs, Antiquities and Museum Projects at the Ministry of Antiquities Waad Abul Ela stated that about 95% of the development work of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir has been completed.

The museum's entrances, garden and outer walls have been developed.

Abul Ela stated to the press that the exterior facades of the museum have been painted with the previous colors. This is in addition to strengthening the iron fence in the main facade, and developing the three external gates to be used by visitors and in transporting artifacts.

Abul Ela added that the stone bases of the statues on display in the garden were cleaned, and the museum’s bathrooms have been developed and maintained. The Precise Restoration Department in Cairo has restored the marble facades.

Abul Ela said developing the corridors will be delayed until all the artifacts are transferred from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir to the Grand Egyptian Museum.

The Ministry of Antiquities announced in July 2019 that it will develop the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir as part of a development project to raise the quality of services at museums and tourist sites.
