CAIRO - 14 January 2020: On January 21, Farouk Hosny Foundation for Culture and Arts will organize an art exhibition and a ceremony to announce the winners of the 2020 Art Prize.
It is the first prize that the foundation has launched since its establishment at the end of September 2019.
On this occasion, Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem will open an art exhibition that includes works at the final stage of the competition at the Gezira Arts Center in Zamalek.
The ceremony includes a speech by former Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the foundation Farouk Hosny, in addition to a screening of a short documentary film on Farouk Hosny Foundation for Culture and Arts directed by Hany Abul Hassan.
The ceremony will also include a speech from the judging panel, where the winning photography artwork of the first award worth of LE 50,000 will be announced. The foundation will also award nine other artworks certificates of appreciation.
“The foundation seeks to build the Egyptian person by supporting creative youth in various fields,” said Hosny.
“This year, we started with photography and we will work in the coming years to organize other competitions in the various branches of arts and culture,” concluded Hosny.
Hosny expressed his admiration of the artwork submitted to the competition which demonstrates the ability of Egyptian youth to be creative, saying: “There is a lot of talent that needs to be supported. This is our main goal in the foundation. The foundation does not only offer a financial prize, but will also help artists in marketing their works, through displaying them in a group art exhibition.”
The foundation announced its first photography competition on the sidelines of its launch in September 2019. The foundation accepted 453 artworks from young artists aging from 18 to 35 years. Seventy one artworks were selected by the judging panel to participate in a group art exhibition that runs until January 31.
The contest's jury included Alia Abdul Hadi, Ashraf Reda, Hussain el-Shabouri, Samir Fouad and Ehab el-Labban.
It is noteworthy that Farouk Hosny Foundation for Culture and Arts is an independent institution, based in Zamalek. Established at the end of 2019 and bearing the publicity number 872 of 2019 from the Ministry of Social Solidarity, it aims to support young people in various branches of arts, culture and creativity to be able to participate in the development of society.
