Late Ibrahim el-Bahrawy - ET
CAIRO - 5 January 2019: In the morning of Jan. 5, professor at the Faculty of Arts, Department of Hebrew Studies Ain Shams University, and Vice-Chairman of the Board of the Israeli Studies Center, Zagazig University Ibrahim el-Bahrawy passed away.
El-Bahrawy received his doctorate in contemporary Israeli war literature from Ain Shams University in 1972 with honors, and a Master’s Degree in Jewish Religious Thought at Ain Shams University in 1969 with honors.
The late professor was granted the State Award for Excellence in Social Sciences from the Supreme Council of Culture in 1999, in addition to the State Appreciation Award in Literature from the Supreme Council of Culture in 2009.
Bahrawy was one of the most famous professors of Israeli studies. He interrogated the Israeli prisoners between 1967 and 1973. He issued a study on the attitudes and feelings of Israeli prisoners of war through conducting interviews in the Egyptian Military Prison during the wars of 1967 and 1973. He also issued a study of the conflicting currents of religious and secular thoughts in Israeli society through contemporary Hebrew literature.
The late professor also participated and lectured in specialized scientific seminars at the Middle East Research Center, Nasser Military Academy, Al-Ahram Center for Strategic Studies, the Arab Center for Strategic Studies in Cairo, the Arab League and the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In a condolence message uploaded on his official page, Tarik Fahmy, a professor of political science, commented: "I remember your last words: Protect Egypt and do not overlook the other side."
