Zahi Hawass granted the Carrick Golden Medal in Belgrade, Serbia - ET
CAIRO - 26 November 2019: At an international celebration in Belgrade, Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass was presented the Golden Medal of the Carrick Foundation, in the presence of 500 intellectuals and politicians in Serbia.
Ambassador of Egypt to Serbia Amr el-Gouily was also present.
The award was presented to five other individuals; a singer from Greece, a writer and journalist from Italy and the Czech Republic, a film director and another from France. Hawass is the first Arab and African to receive this award.
There was a special celebration for the veteran archaeologist, where a film about his life and his discoveries was screened. The film screening was followed by granting Hawass the Golden Medal Award and a certificate of appreciation.
The renowned Egyptian archaeologist then gave a speech in which he reviewed his life since childhood in a small village in Damietta. He then talked about his discoveries and pointed out that his passion for Egyptian antiquities came at the beginning of his life when he found a statue of the ancient Egyptian goddess Aphrodite. At the end of his speech, Hawass dedicated the award for the Egyptian people.
The Founder of the foundation commented that Zahi Hawass is the most popular Egyptian globally and the year 2019 is the 22nd year in which this award is presented; from the oldest institution in Europe.
