“Elm el-Wosool” to be screened in Carthage Film Days Festival on Oct. 28

CAIRO - 28 October 2019: The Egyptian film “Elm el-Wosool” (Certified Mail) will represent Egypt in the 53rd edition of Carthage Film Festival scheduled to run from October 26 to November 2.

The Egyptian film by Hisham Saqr will be screened at the Carthage Film Days on Oct. 28 as the first Arab premiere at 9:00 pm at the Opera Hall in the Culture City of Tunisia. The film's heroine Basma will be absent from the audience, while star Passant Shawki will be present.

“Elm el-Wosool” (Certified Mail) is the only Egyptian film to participate in the official feature film competition and competes with 11 films for the "Tanit" Award.

The film is the first long novel of its author, director and producer Hisham Saqr, with the co-production of Mohamed Hefzy. It revolves around the character of Hala, who is embodied by the artist Basma. Hala faces her suicidal thoughts on her own. The girl suffers from severe depression after the death of her father when she was 18 years old.

Hala’s psychological state further deteriorated when she gives birth to a boy as her husband becomes detained and locked up. However, Hala decides to fight her condition and take on the world, putting an end to her dependence on her husband.

“Elm el-Wosool” (Certified Mail) is co-starring Passant Shawki, Mohamed Sarhan, Lubna, Anas and Rafal Abdel Kader.

“Elm el-Wosool” (Certified Mail) directed by Hisham Saqr participated in the discoveries film section in the last edition of Toronto Film Festival which was held from September 5-15, being the first Egyptian film to participate in an international film festival since the beginning of 2019.
