Waziri: Karnak Temple unharmed by fire

CAIRO - 24 October 2019: Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Mostafa Waziri affirmed that the fire that broke out in the cafeteria in front of the Visitors Center of Karnak Temple did not result in casualties or damages.

Waziri further clarified that the Karnak Temple is unharmed and secure, and the Civil Protection Forces could control the fire in a timely manner.

For his part, Ahmed Khalifa, public relations official at the Antiquities Authority of Luxor, said the fire broke out in a cafeteria outside the Karnak Temple and not inside the temple as was rumored on various social media platforms, stressing that the security and executive authorities arrived immediately to the scene.
