'Opera Aida' to stage in Luxor on Oct. 26, 27

CAIRO - 21 October 2019: Luxor is five days away from the return of "Opera Aida" after a hiatus of more than two decades. The event will be held at Hatshepsut Temple on Oct. 26 and 27.

Governor of Luxor Mustafa el-Ham confirmed that preparation is currently underway in Luxor Governorate for the artistic and cultural tourism event.

"Opera Aida" returns to Luxor after 22 years of suspension following Deir el-Bahari incident. The last performance of "Opera Aida" was held at the Temple of Hatshepsut in late 1997. In only a few days, the VIP tickets were sold out despite being the highest in price.

Additionally, more than 4,000 tourists of different nationalities are expected to attend. The organizing team comprises 500 Egyptians and 50 consultants. Also, a number of university students participate in organizing the event.The event is organized in cooperation with more than 17 institutions, organizations and hotels around Egypt.

It is worth mentioning that Luxor hotels are fully booked on the two days, breaking a record. Nile Cruises in Luxor recorded the highest occupancy rates at the time of the shows for the first time in 8 years.

Moreover, a short film about the 15th anniversary of the opening of the Suez Canal will screen before "Opera Aida". The show is directed by the famed German opera director Michael Asterm.

Sae Kyung Rim of Korea plays Aida and has played Aida in Seoul, Fort, Munich and Tokyo. The role of the Egyptian army chief "Radames" will be embodied by Mickael Spadaccini from Belgium. The Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine, founded in the 19th century, will accompany the performers.
