CAIRO - 11 June 2017: A photography exhibition will be held in India’s Lado Sarai showcasing works featuring African portraits of Indian photographer Mahesh Shantaram on June 16.

The exhibition, organized by Tasveer Arts, aims to raise awareness to the lives of Africans in India socially, culturally, and economically through the documentary photography carried out by Shantaram.

Shantaram was inspired by the Tanzanians who were attacked in Bangalore in India that triggered him to start this project. He managed to capture the lives of Africans in cosmopolitan cities.

The project aims to make the collective voices heard through these photos that feature Africans in their daily lives in India, according to an article in Hindustan Times.
Independent documentary photographer, Shantaram began his career as a wedding photographer where he managed to gather a set of aspects such as women, their families, their dreams and aspirations all in one photo, according to the photographer’s official Facebook page.

Among several recognitions worldwide, Shataram has been awarded the third prize in the Sony World Photography Awards in 2011and BP Wedding Photographer of the Year in 2010.
