CAIRO - 9 June 2017: After its publication over 80 years ago, Agatha Christie’s detective novel Murder on the Orient has been re-adapted yet again. This time with world renowned cast members and some twists here and there.
The movie, set to come out November 9, 2017, features an ensemble on actors such as Johnny Depp, Judi Dench, Michelle Pfeiffer, Penelope Cruz, and Willen Dafoe. Dressed to the nines, the trailer shows the actors embodying their characters deeply in a state of perfect chemistry.
The ensemble of actors also manages to get the hang of the mix between the murderous feel of the story with the humor Christie had in the novel. They seem to be able to balance out the dark, mystery-solving mood with their witty and colorful behavior, something intended by Christie as well in the novel.
The novel was first adapted as a movie in 1974, followed by two other television adaptations in 2001 and 2010. But the trailer of this year's movie shows the intense focus on detail created by the filmmakers, from the train’s exterior and interior, to the characters’ costumes. This may be one of the better re-adaptations of the novel, since elements of modernity and realism seem to be present without taking away from the original story.
