CAIRO - 15 May 2019: Head of the Islamic and Coptic Antiquities Sector Gamal Mustafa clarified that the activities of the festival started with a performance by the Arabic Opera Ensemble and that the events will run until Ramadan 23.
The shows of the festival will also include a collection of exhibitions of traditional arts and crafts as well as various art shows all taking place at the northern Cairo wall.
The northern Cairo wall is a fortified wall built by Commander of the armies under the Fatimid Caliph al-Mustansir Bellah, Badr al-Jamali, in 1092 AD. It was built outside of Cairo to be the fortress of the city. It is connected to the ancient wall built by Gawhar al-Sicily.
The wall consists of two gates; one for entry and another for exit. Al-Nasr gate is located in the north-east of the wall of the fort. It is 24.20 meters in length, 21.63 meters in width and 21 meters high. Bab el-Futuh is located on the north-west side of the northern fence. It consists of two rectangular towers, 22.33 meters high, with a 22.85-meter round façade.
