Mazaher Ensemble, The Castle to perform on May 13

CAIRO - 13 May 2019: Alternative music and zar lovers in Cairo are preparing for the first Ramadan concert performed by the Egyptian Ensemble Mazaher and the American based band The castle.

The concert is set to take place in Makan Theater for Arts at 9 p.m. on May 13.

The Castle is one of the bands that recently joined the alternative music scene in the Arab World, despite being an American band that started off in Los Angeles. The band is inspired by the 1990s Arabic rock and pop music and they present it to their Arab fans in their own unique style. The band consists of members of various nationalities.



Moreover, the Egyptian Ensemble Mazaher is considered one of the first bands that perform Zar; one of the few musical combinations in which women play a key role. Zar concerts aim to present a "state of mind" rather than just a musical concert.

Mazaher Ensemble is inspired by three styles of Zar music: the Upper Egyptian Zar, Abul Gheit Zar and the Sudanese or African Zar.
