CAIRO - 12 May 2019: After she infuriated the Sudanese people during one of the episodes of a TV program, Egyptian actress Shaimaa Seif received thousands of comments on social networking sites demeaning the manner she portrayed the Sudanese women.

Seif appeared in a comedy program painting her face in a dark color. She spoke using the Sudanese accent in which many viewed as insulting. Once the episode was broadcasted on May 10, the actress received numerous comments including one that stated “This is not funny, this is racist”. Another user commented “There is a big difference between what is funny and what is decent and culturally appropriate. Next time before you do such a thing, hire a consultant, if it is insulting and will hurt a large number of individuals, then refrain from doing it”

For her part, the Egyptian actress responded by writing an apology on her Facebook page, saying “My dear Sudanese fans, a little while ago i read a great number of your comments that contained numerous insults. I am a comedian and my role was supposed to be funny, I was hoping you would take my performance in a comical way.”

“Surely, I didn't mean to hurt any of you”, continued Seif. “I love you, and surely you love me too. I am sorry if I let you down in a situation that is out of my hands. Only God knows how I feel towards you” commented Seif.
