CAIRO – 17April 2019: ET commemorates Egyptian comic actor El-Deif Ahmed, who passed away 49 years ago.
The first name of the renowned actor, El-Deif, means in Arabic the guest. El-Deif’s name reflects his journey in life ashe was really like a guest leaving too early. He diedat 33 years old.
El-Deif began his journey in Faculty of Arts’ theater where he played a set of sketches and short plays, gaining huge fame within a very short period of time.
After graduation in 1960, Fouad el-Mohandes chose him to play a small role in the outstanding play “Ana w Howa w Heya” (I, He and She).
El-Deifalso directed a set of international famed plays such as "Crows", "The Brothers Karamazov"and "The Unique Sings".
In 1967,El-Deif founded the stand-up comedy trio Tholathy Adwa'a El-Masrah alongside George Sidhom and Samir Ghanem. He directed their first play “Kol Wahed w Lee A’fareet” (Each One has a Ghost).
Furthermore, El-Deif wrote and directed with his team “Tabeekh El-Malayika” (Angels’s Cook), “Hadasa Fee Ezbet Al-Ward” (Happened at Ward’s Estate), and “Hawadit w Prageet”.
He also wrote the script of the movie "Roba’ Dastet Ashraar"and composed all the songs of the movie "30 Days in Prison".
Throughout his distinctive career, El-Dief participated in more than 30 movies such as “Heyawel Regal” (She and the Men), “Rehlet El-Saada” (Journey to Happiness), and “Talat Nesaa” (Three Women).
El-Deif passed away while preparing for the play “Ragel Elly Gawez Merato” (The Man who Remarries his Wife)where he was playing therole of a dead person.
After the final rehearsal of the play, El-Deif returned home and asked his wife to call the doctor but it was too late. El-Deif died on his way to the hospital on April, 16, 1970. God bless his soul.
