CAIRO - 7 June: The Cairo Celebration Choir (CCC) comes to the stage at AUC’s Falaki Theater Sunday with a performance of ‘Rising Soloists,’ which will feature multi-genre music performances.
The concert on June 11 will be begin at 9 p.m. and will feature oratorios, musicals, pop, rock, jazz and Arabic music. Entrance to the concert is free.
Directed by Maestro Nayer Nagui, the CCC was established in 2000 gathering professional amateurs. It comprises over 100 members from different nationalities and professions who “share the same passion to music,” according to the choir’s official Facebook page.
The choir premiered in 2000 at a Christmas concert, featuring soloists from the Cairo Opera Company along with the Cairo Opera Orchestra. The Christmas concert later became an annual trend.
With a vision to spread fine arts across the country, the CCC has played diverse music pieces nationwide and in Europe and North Africa, including Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Schubert’s Stabat Mater, Handel’s Ode to St. Cecilia, Mozart’s Grand Mass in C minor, Beethoven’s Mass in C major, and a selection of Gregorian songs.
In addition to Western classical repertoire, the choir also performs Arabic music in a unique way, in “an attempt to harmonize Arabic music, transcending class and cultural boundaries.”
The CCC was awarded the Silver Award in the category Stylish Interpretation of Arabic Music at ‘Prague Voices,’ an international competition held in 2012. The choir was also awarded the Silver Award Diploma in the category Folklore at the ‘World Choir Games 2016’ that was held in Russia.
