CAIRO - 28 February 2019: Seven Arab and foreign plays will compete in the International Women Monodrama Festival's first edition in Lebanon. The festival will run from March 8 - 12, in line with the International Women’s Day.

In its first session, the festival is set to pay a tribute to late Lebanese theater pioneer Siham Nasser.

The play "Bela Ma’ana” (Meaningless) for director Manar Zein represents Egypt.

The seven plays participating in the festival will compete in the official competition for the Best Actress Award, Best Director Award, Best Scenario Award, Best Integrated Show Award and Best Sonography Award.

The first Lebanese Theater Conference will be held on the sidelines of the festival to discuss the theater crisis in Lebanon and the importance of the role of the theater for public awareness and change.

In addition, a seminar on the role and aspirations of women will be organized by the Commission on Women's Rights in Lebanon and the Mothers Committee.

The South Women's House Association will participate in a handicraft exhibition taking place during the festival.

A monodrama is a drama acted or designed to be acted by a single person.
