Bibliotheca Alexandrina - Egypt Today
CAIRO – 11 December 2018: The Bibliotheca Alexandrina announced hosting a lecture entitled "History of Jazz Music" given by Salah Hashim. The lecture will be held on December 19at 5 p.mat the Auditorium.
In Dec. 2017, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina hosted the Jazz and Movies Festival, which was founded by the Egyptian critic and novelist Salah Hashim. The festival reviewed the history of jazz and its relation to the seventh art in two lectures, each presenting a documentary film.
In the same context, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina presented the Indian documentary “The world Before It” at the Arts Center,as part of the Sunday’s Cinema program. The film is a Canadian-Indian joint production and is directed by Nisha Bhujel.
According to a statement by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the film exposes India after the first decade of the new millennium, where young girls compete to win the title “Miss India”, in contrast to the world of radical Hindu fundamentalism, where young girls were trained to carry weapons in an atmosphere of religious extremism.
“The World Before It” won the Best Film Award in 2012 at the Tribeca Film Festival, as well as the Best Canadian Documentary Film in 2012 at the Hot Docs Film Festival.
