CAIRO – 29 November 2018: The Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) made an amendment to the list of prizes awarded in its 40th round. The festival's closing ceremony will take place on Nov. 29 in Cairo Opera House.
The CIFF's management decided to cancel the Gomhour Award, which has been previously announced, due to technical difficulties which led to a decline in the voting rates, according to an official press release by the festival's management.
The award will hence be granted to the winning film of the Golden Pyramid Award, a prize worth to $20,000.
The festival's management announced that the amendment only applies for the current round, stressing that the voting mechanism will be enhanced for the upcoming edition.
In its closing ceremony, the CIFF is expected to announce the winners competing in its four categories: The International film competition, New Horizons for Arab cinema competition, Critics Weed and Al-Ghad Cinema competition, and the newly included Best Arab competition with a prize worth $15,000
