Medhat Saleh - Egypt Today.
CAIRO –6 November 2018: Renowned Egyptian singer Medhat Saleh will perform on November 6 at Cairo Opera House as part of the 27th edition of the Arab Music Festival.
Medhat Saleh was born in 1960 in Cairo's Shobra district. He started his musical career directly after he graduated from Cairo University. He released his first song, entitled “Akeed” (Sure) in the 1980s.
He performed his song “Ya Greed el-Nakhl el-Aly” (O High Palm Leaves) in front of former Egyptian President Hosny Mubarak in mid-1980s, and the song achieved a booming success, placing Saleh among the top singers at that time.
Throughout his career that extended for more than 30 years, Saleh is famous for performing the songs of the most successful movies such as "Habiby Ya Ashek" in “Short w Fanla w Cap” (Shorts, a T-shirt and a Hat) movie, "El Nour Makano Fel Qoloob" (Light Belongs to the Hearts) from “Amir el Zalam” (The Prince of Darkness) movie, and “La Hatakhod Eih” (What Will You Gain?) from the movie "Mafia", among others.
On November 1, Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem inaugurated one of the most significant music festivals in the Arab World, the Arab Music Festival, in Cairo Opera House's Grand Hall.
The Arab Music Festival will run until Nov. 12. The festival will be attended by a large number of the Arab world's singing stars.
One of the main surprises of the festival is the participation of veteran Lebanese singer and soprano Majida el-Roumi, after a long hiatus of performing concerts in Egypt.
Within the festival’s program, Tunisian singer Latifa performed on Nov. 2, Lebanese singer Assi el-Hallani performed on Nov. 3, Lebanese singer Ramy Ayach performed on Nov.4, veteran Egyptian musician Omar Khairat performed on Nov.5, and Lebanese singer Wael Jassar is scheduled to perform on Nov. 10.
Additionally, Tunisian singer Saber Rebai and famed Kuwaiti singer Nawal will perform on Nov. 12.
It is worth noting that the promising talents; Reham Abdel Hakim and Nehal Nabil will also perform in the festival.
The 27th edition of the festival will consist of 43 concerts held in seven theatres:
- Grand Hall
- Small Hall
- Arab Music Institute
- National Theatre
- Damanhour Theatre
- Alexandria Theatre
- Tanta Theatre
A total of 72 singers from eight Arab countries will participate in the festival this year.
The management of Cairo Opera House, headed by Magdy Saber, decided to name the 27th edition of the festival after late veteran Egyptian actress and singer, Shadya.
