CAIRO – 24 October 2018:Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mostafa Waziri, will inaugurate “Egypt’s Sunken Mysteries” exhibition in Minneapolis, the United States.

This exhibition sheds light on the discoveries made by the submarine exploration of the European Institute for Underwater Archaeology (IEASM), directed by Franck Goddio, in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry for Antiquities.

The exhibition includes 293 artifacts, some of which were submerged under the Mediterranean for thousands of years dating back to the ancient cities of Thonis-Heracleion and Canopus off the coast of Alexandria, Egypt.

The selection of statues includes the gods Isis and Sarapisalong with the statues of the sphinx.

Artifacts,rangingfrom colossal sculptures, precious gold coins and jewelry, to bronze vessels, objects with ancient Egyptian or Greek inscriptions, and statues from the sunken ancient cities of Thonis-Heracleion and Canopus, were presented in the exhibition. All together illustratethe “legend of Osiris”, the Egyptian god of the afterlife.

The exhibition was previously showed in the British Museum in London and the Rietberg Museum in Zurich, and it is now touring the USA. The exhibition's first stopin the US wasthe Art Museum in St Louis.
