Egyptian film ‘The New Mad Hatter Story’ partakes in Girona Film Festival

CAIRO – 4 October 2018: Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem agreed on Egypt’s participation in the 30th edition of Girona Film Festival (GIFF) in Spain, according to Ministry of Culture’s statement issued on Wednesday.

In this regard, Egyptian director Ghada Ali participated in the festival with the short film “The New Mad Hatter Story”.

The Ministry of Culture referred that this participation confirms Egypt’s leading position among other civilizations and different cultures. This comes in the framework of the international interest to invite the creative artists in Egypt to participate in different international cultural and artistic events.

In the same context, the Ministry of Culture agreed on the participation of the General Authority for Cultural Palaces’ Al-Sharqiya Band for Folk Arts in China Shanghai International Arts Festival, which will be held between October 23 and Nov. 4.

An international round in 2017 participated in Silicon Valley African Film in California, Jesuit Film Festival in Egypt and the Real Time International Film Festival in Nigeria.

In a 48-hour challenge, Egyptian director Ghada Ali managed to film "The New Mad Hatter Story". Not only so, but her film is also set to win best costumes in the 48-Hour Film Project’s competition in Egypt.

The short movie which is directed, edited and produced by Ali, and written by Ola el-Mallah, is inspired by Alice in Wonderland, only this time the mad hatter finds himself captive in one of the houses in a local area in Egypt. Will he manage to escape and find Alice? The movie may provide an answer.

Ali is a filmmaker, director and producer. She is currently working on her documentaries, short and artistic films around Morocco, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and others, beside her new Female Filmmakers Project with eight different nationalities, SPLA reported.

Ali is a global ambassador for art and peace to Egypt in the Worldwide Peace Marker Project (WPMP). She was also selected as a short film jury member in London Feminist Film Festival in early 2016.
