Van Gogh’s life to be depicted in new motion picture

CAIRO – 25 May 2017: Jon Kilik Hollywood Studios will produce a film entitled “At Eternity’s Gate”, which will focus on the time in Van Gogh’s life he spent in Arles and Auvers-sur-Oise, France. The scenes will be shot on location in France, according to the news blog Deadline Hollywood Daily.


Filmmaker Julian Schnabel will direct the upcoming film. Schnabel is currently writing the script with Jean-Claude Carriere. Willem Dafoe is set to play Vincent van Gogh, Deadline said.


Van Gogh was a Dutch post-impressionist painter among the most famous and influential in the history of western art. In 1886, he moved to Paris where he met members of the Avant-Garde school including the superstar Paul Gauguin.


The news blog mentioned that “At Eternity’s Gate” is a film about creativity and the sacrifices he made to produce the spectacular masterpieces that are instantly recognizable around the world today.


In just over a decade he produced 2,100 pieces of art, including around 860 oil paintings, most of them in the last two years of his life in France, where he died.


Born into an upper-middle-class family, Van Gogh drew as a child and was serious, quiet and thoughtful. He was unsuccessful during his lifetime; he was considered a madman and a failure. , he only achieved recognition and fame after his suicide.
