CAIRO - 6 September 2018 (MENA) – Algerian Culture Minister Ezzedine Maihouby hailed his country's strong relations with Egypt in various fields, especially the cultural ones.

In an interview with MENA on Thursday, the minister said that Egypt is a home to art, theater and cultural creativity.

The two countries' strong presence in several events has contributed to establishing a partnership in several cultural areas, he added.

With regard to bilateral cooperation, he stressed that Egypt and Algeria enjoy solid relations in the field of cinema and publication, citing the high participation of Egyptian publishers in the International Book Fair of Algiers and cooperation among Egyptian and Algerian authors in many publishing works.

Also, Maihouby welcomed producing joint dramas and art works between Egypt and Algeria to handle many issues of the Arab world.

The move to show Algerian dramas on Egyptian TV channels could help convey the right image of the Algerian society, he added.

As for cooperation with Egypt's Culture Ministry, he said that he discussed with his Egyptian counterpart Enas Abdel Dayem ways to boost cultural exchange through setting a legal framework for cooperation in various domains.

Concerning the fight against terrorism, the Algerian minister asserted the importance of countering such phenomenon through facing destructive thought and ideologies.

“Confronting the extremist thought in not limited to the state’s institutions, but also the whole community,” he said.

He warned of the consequences of neglecting the fight against terrorism, calling for rectifying the religious and cultural discourse and reviewing mechanisms for political action to establish more balanced societies.
