Bayoumi Fouad nominated to star “Once a Greek”

CAIRO – 5 September 2018:Director Mohamed Omar nominated actor Bayoumi Fouad to star “Once a Greek”play, originally written bySwiss-German playwrightand dramatist,Friedrich Durrenmatt. The show will be part of a series ofshows hosted by the National Theatre, according to statements given by the director.

“Once a Greek” is a novel written in 1955.It tells the story of a shy, middle-aged Greek book-keeping assistant, who becomes popular and successful overnight when he fallsin love with a Greek woman and decides to get married.

Durrenmatt was born in January 1921, and died in 1990. He was a proponent of epic theatre, whose plays reflected the recent experiences of World War ||. The author was also politically active, yet he also wrote numerous comedies such as “The Marriage of Mr. Mississippi”, “The Greek” and more. “Judge and his Hangman” was one of Durrenmatt’s most successful political plays.

Fouadbegan his acting career whenhe was well into his40s, but he managed to become one of the most successful comedians in Egypt, and the Pan-Arab area, in a very short time.

Director Mohamed Omar graduated from the Higher Institute of Theatrical Arts and directed many successful theatrical shows that werehosted by the National Theatre. His most successful was the play “AreesLbentElsultan” (A Husband for the Sultan’s Daughter) written by Mahfouz Abdel Rahman.
