Coming Soon: Film to depict Pope Shenouda, Sheikh Shaarawy

CAIRO – 25 May 2017: A new film coming soon that depicts the lives of two of Egypt's great religious icons, Pope Shenouda and Sheikh Al-Shaarawi, produced by Al-Rimas production company with an estimate of L.E. 70 billion budget.

The film is directed by Albert Makram who is currently selecting a team of artists and technicians to commence filming soon.

The title of the film "Pope of the Arabs" and the story was carefully selected to highlight the role of the two Egyptian icons of love and peace.

In March 2016, the Council of the Coptic Orthodox Church issued a statement notifying film producers that they must obtain the approval of the Church before venturing on any film or drama that depicts the life of the late Pope Shenouda. The statement explained that Pope Shenouda’s history is now figuratively belongs the Church.
