Cairo International Film Festival to honor Hassan Hosny

CAIRO – 30 July 2018: Super star Hassan Hosny will be officially honored in the Cairo International Film Festival’s opening ceremony.

The 40th round of the Cairo International Film Festival will be launched on November 20 and will end on November 29.The festival’s management released an official statement announcing granting the Faten Hamama Award to the experienced super star, Hosny.
Film producer and scenarist Mohamed Hefzy is the festival’s president.

Hefzy announced in an official statement that Hosny deserves the award because of the countless dramatic works that he participated in throughout almost half a century.
The star’s dramatic works will always be carved in the people’s memories and hearts, according to Hefzy.Hosny is known for supporting the young talents in the movie industry.The star’s works have gained numerous awards both locally and on the Pan-Arab level.Also, film critic and the festival’s technical manager Youssef Cherif Rizkallah stated that the experienced star deserves the award as he owns a unique talent that enriched all the works he participated in.

A mini biography of Hassan Hosny:

Hosny was born in Cairo in 1931. The child soon recognized his artistic talents and made sure he participated in all the shows and theatrical works in his school.
Growing up, Hosny was granted numerous medals and certifications from the Ministry of Education.During the early sixties, the star joined the military’s theatrical group and performed in numerous shows.

The star first participated in small roles in the movie "La Wakt Lel Hob" (No Time for Love) in 1963 and the movie "Bent el-Heta" (Neighborhood's Girl) in 1964.The seventies held a lot of surprises for the young actor, as he participated in several movies such as "Sook el-Hareem" (Females' Market), "Hob Wa Kebreya’a" (Love and Pride), "Madinat el-Samt" (City of Silence) and many others.

Hosny did not appear to slow down during the eighties as he continued to participate in successful movies such as the movie "Sawa’a el-Otobees" (The Bus Driver), directed by Atef el-Tayeb.Hosny’s role in that movie in particular made him shine more as a very talented actor and was a great turning point in his acting career, shedding light on his abilities to master the role of a villain.

The star continued co-operating with Tayeb in several movies such as "El-Bare’e" (The Innocent) in 1985 and "El-Horoob" (Getaway) in 1991.Hosny worked with numerous other pioneer directors in the film industry in Egypt, such as Mohammed Khan, Osama Fawzy and Dawood Abdel Sayed.Furthermore, the 90’s witnessed Hosny’s great success as a veteran actor as he started to play significant roles in movies starring young actors at the time, such as Ala’a Wali el-Din, Ahmed Helmy and Ramez Galal.

This proved to be a great decision as he played a series of important roles in movies such as "Abood Ala el-Hodood" (Abood on The Border) with late Wali el-Din, "Africano" with Ahmed el-Sakka, "El-Lemby" with Mohammed Sa’ad and several others.The Faten Hamama Award is the highest level prize granted by the Cairo International Film Festival; it was awarded last year to veteran comedian Samir Ghanem, star Maged el-Kedwany and actress Hend Sabry. The late actress, Faten Hamama's family supports the award financially.
