CAIRO – 23 June 2018: Eid Al-Fitr movie marathon witnessed the competition of five different movies which varied between action, comedy and drama, presenting to the audience multiple options to choose from. The revenues of Eid Al-Fitr have risen significantly, due to the high demand on watching movies in cinema halls. Egypt Today presents to its audience Eid Al-Fitr movies rankings.

1- "Harb Karmooz" (Karmooz War)

The action movie "Harb Karmooz" claimed the first rank, achieving total revenues of about LE 23.811 million ($1.322 million). Apparently, this year is Amir Karara’s year as his series “Kalabesh’’ (Handcuffs) achieved the highest viewership in Ramadan. It seems that people tend to prefer action in both series and movies. The film takes place in the era of King Farouk, Egypt's last king.

The story revolves around a police officer, Youssef el Masry (played by Amir Karara), who lives in Karmooz district in Alexandria. Masry fights many battles and saves a girl from being raped. “Harb Karmooz” stars famed English actor Scott Adkins, known as “Boyka”, in his first appearance in the Egyptian cinema, alongside Karara, Mostafa Khater, Ghada Abdel Razek, Bayoumy Fouad, Fathy Abdel Wahab and Rogina, among others. “Harb Karmooz” is written by Mohamed el Sobky and directed by Peter Mimi.

2- “Leilet Hana w Serour” (A Night of Bliss and Pleasure)

Mohamed Emam succeeded to snatch the second rank with his action-comedy movie "Leilet Hana w Serour" which achieved about LE 14.7 million. The movie tells the story of a businessman named (Serour) who is forced to escape from a gang along with his finance (Hana) then suddenly he has to confront the gang’s head.

The movie stars Mohamed Emam, Yasmine Sabry, and Farouk el Fishawy, among others. “Leilet Hana w Serour” is written by Mustafa Sakr and Mohamed Ezzeldin and directed by Hussein el Manbawy. "Leilet Hana w Serour" is the second successful cooperation for Emam and Sabry together after “Gahim fi el Hend” (Hell in India) movie. It seems that this duet are starting to gain widespread popularity.

3-“Alb Omo” (His Mother's Heart)

The comic duet Chico and Hisham Maged grabbed the third rank with their comedy movie “Alb Omo” achieving about LE 5.5 million. A leader of a gang called Magdi Takhtoukh goes in a fight where he gets seriously injured and becomes in need of a heart transplant. At the same time, the mother of a young man named Younis dies; the doctors decide to transfer this woman's heart to Takhtoukh to save his life. The funny thing is that Takhtoukh starts to deal with Younis in a tender way as if he is his mother.

The movie stars Chico, Hisham Maged, Nour Kadry, Dalal Abdel Aziz, Bayoumi Fouad, and Mohmed Tharwat, among others. “Alb Omo” is written by Tamer Ibrahim, Ahmed Mohy and Mohamed Mohamady and directed by Amr Salah.

4- “El-Abla Tamtam” (Ms. Tamtam)

The family movie “El-Abla Tamtam” claimed the fourth rank achieving about LE 4.7 million. The story of the film revolves around the escape of a group of prisoners through a secret underground tunnel. When they find themselves in a school, they decide to stay there but Tamtam, a teacher, confronts them in a comic way.

“El-Abla Tamtam” stars Yasmine Abdel Aziz, Bayoumi Fouad, Hisham Ismail, and Hamdy el Merghany, among others. The movie is written by Ayman Wattar and directed by Aly Idris. Abdelaziz continues in the same line presenting movies that target family and kids.

5-"Karma"

The last rank went to the social movie “Karma” which achieved about LE 3 million revolves around two people who never cross paths, but have common life circumstances. “Karma” stars Amr Saad, Zeina, Ghada Abdel Razek, Suheir el Ghadban, Khaled el Sawy, Wafaa Amer, Maged el Masry, Dalal Abdel Aziz, Magdy Kamel, Ehab Fahmy, Mostafa Darwish, Hassan Harb and the young child, Birla. “Karma” houses as well a notable group of Egyptian media men, who are acting for the first time such as Youssef al Hussieny, Khaled Tallima and Omar Zahran.

The movie is written and directed by Khaled Youssef, produced and distributed by Masr Arabia Production Company. The film is scheduled to be released in several Arab countries soon. The film marks famed Egyptian director Youssef's comeback to movie directing after seven years of hiatus. His last film, “Kaf Qamar” (Qamar’s Hand), was screened in 2011. “Karma” also marks Youssef's fourth collaboration with Amr Saad, the sixth with Ghada Abdel Razek and the third with Wafaa Amer.
