CAIRO- 17 May 2017: Prominent French actress Isabelle Huppert will be honored with the Women in Motion Award by Kering in partnership with the Cannes Film Festival.
Huppert has in turn chosen Palestinian director Maysaloun Hamoud for the Young Talents award, for her movie “In Between” about three young Palestinian women living in Tel Aviv.
“Since women continue to be confronted each day with countless obstacles, I am delighted and moved to be able to shine a spotlight on the talent of one of today’s most promising female directors, Maysaloun Hamoud, through the 2017 Women in Motion Young Talents Award.
The free-spirited and joyful women that she portrays, torn between their desire for emancipation and the traditions that sometimes stifle them, are true heroines of our time,” Huppert stated.
The award will be given at the Women in Motion dinner Sunday night in Cannes.
Launched in May 2015, the Women in Motion program aims to highlight women's contribution to the film industry either in front of or behind the camera. The initiative is based on two pillars: the Talks, a series of discussions around the role of women in the industry, and the Women in Motion Awards, which consists of two awards; one to a recognized celebrity, the other to recognize young talent.
But who is Isabelle Huppert?
Unfortunately, Isabelle Huppert is not famous among the Egyptian audience.
Appearing in more than 110 films and television productions since she started her acting career in 1971, Huppert is dubbed the French Meryl Streep. She is the actress who has the most films in the official competition of the Cannes Film Festival (19 films, as of 2016), and one of the four who have won the Best Interpretation Awards twice.
She was a member of the jury at the Cannes Festival in 1984, and was appointed the president of the jury for the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.
The prolific actress was nominated this year for Academy Award’s Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for her movie “Elle”. This nomination made her one of only 7 French actresses to be nominated for an Oscar for a French-language performance.
Her most famous movies are Madame Bovary, Elle, The Piano Teacher, and Amour which won both the Oscar and the Golden Globe for the Best Foreign Language Film in 2013.
