Yehya Khalil - Egypt Today
CAIRO – 9 April 2018: Legendary Jazz musician and creative producer, Yehya Khalil, will perform at the Cairo Opera House’s Small Hall on April 12.
Considered a remarkable Jazz pioneer, Khalil is known for combining Jazz tunes with oriental rhythms, attracting many music-loving youths with his significant fusion.
When he was 14 years old, Khalil founded the Cairo Jazz Quartet, the first Jazz band in Egypt. The Jazz legend shared the stage with a big number of famous rock, country and blues bands. He participated in joint performances with Rasputin’s Stash, and performed with Jazz music icons such as Oliver Jones and Dizzy Gillespie.
Khalil performed with Gillespie at the opening of the Cairo Opera House in 1989. He cooperated with a number of Egyptian singers, such as Mohamed Mounir, and currently presents Jazz music on a state-owned Egyptian channel.
Despite his artistic achievements in the Jazz world at a young age, Khalil was eager to learn more about this kind of music by being closer to experts in different regions across the world. Through witnessing two extremely different music schools, eastern and western, Khalil returned back to his country and established music platforms to perform his distinctive fusion music.
