CAIRO – 3 April 2018: The Bibliotheca Alexandrina will be hosting a dance performance titled “Recto Verso” (Wesh We Dahr) on Thursday at Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
The performance comes as part of the Silsilah Dance Project, a unique Alexandria-based program that offers young up-and-coming performers a great chance to participate in a workshop over several months, with the grand outcome of the project being a show that puts everything that was learned into practice. It's also being produced by Centre Rezodance, an independent art center in Egypt dedicated to the performance and promotion of dance as an art form in Egypt. Their goal is to create a space where lovers of dance and performers alike can meet up, engage and learn from each other.
The center also manages the Silsilah Dance Project and is dedicated to bringing high quality dance education to Alexandria. It also carries out several events alongside the annual dance festival Nassim el Raqs and has been a member of UNESCO’s International Dance Council since 2013.
It is funded by several local and international sectors, such as Egypt's embassy in the Netherlands, Egypt's French Institute, the British Council and Al Mawred Al Thaqafy.
“Recto Verso” is choreographed by Mohamed Fouad, an Egyptian dancer and choreographer. He previously performed for D-CAF with his show titled "Without Damage", staged from March 22-23 at the Rawabet Theater. He has also established his own dance group, named "Ka'Af". Working alongside him for “Recto Verso” is Bérengère Valouris, a French choreographer and one of the three international choreographers working with the Silsilah Dance Project.
