Documentary ‘Nanny Culture’ released at Cinemascape Kuwait

CAIRO – 30 March 2018: The UAE documentary “Nanny Culture” has been released by MAD Solutions at Cinemascape Cinema in Kuwait, making it the second documentary released in Kuwait after “Gaza Surf Club”.

Originally released on September 20, 2016, "Nanny Culture" follows Julia, a professional nanny from London who decides to take a job with a family in the United Arab Emirates, unaware of just what to expect. Living in Abu Dhabi, the family enlists Julia to help them manage the lives of their six children, which proves to be much more than Julia expected, especially with the cross-cultural concerns to deal with. The children grow to resent their new nanny, as they find she interferes with their daily life, which only makes Julia's job even harder.

A humorous tale of culture-clash, this documentary showcases just how far a British nanny can go to adapt, and to what extent an average Emirati family can learn to accept another culture as well. In the end, the road to social harmony is paved with many humorous misunderstandings and hilarious antics. It is like “Mary Poppins”, but with an Arab twist.

"Nanny Culture" is directed by Paul James Driscoll, a British filmmaker working in Abu Dhabi since 2008 and employed at The National newspaper. He worked his way up, assuming numerous positions at the paper, such as multimedia producer, where he won numerous awards from the American National Press Photographers Association for the various short films he produced.

Since its premiere, the documentary has participated in various film festivals worldwide, such as Ireland's Silk Road Film Festival, the Arthouse Film Festival in Hong Kong, the Sydney World Film Festival, Melbourne's Phoenix Film Festival and the Hollywood Florida Film Festival.
