CAIRO – 30 March 2018: The 14th annual season of El Genaina Theater concerts will kick start on Apr. 19. The 14th season concerts will be performed by a notable group of Arab and Egyptian bands.
Egyptian composer, singer and renowned oud player Hazem Shahin will perform on Apr. 30. Shahin will present during the concert his latest projects in collaboration with Lebanese bassist Andre Segone, Egyptian pianist Ramy Atallah and Egyptian percussionist Hany Bedair.
Shahin is a founding member of the famed Eskenderella band that performs both Egyptian heritage music and contemporary music. “Al 'Aysh Wal Malh” (Bread and Butter) was his first album with Masar band that was released in 2006, followed by “Things That I Miss” album in 2009.
The famed Egyptian singer Maryam Saleh returns to El Genaina Theater to present her songs such as “Mesh Baghanny” (I Am Not Singing) and “Halawella” (Welcome) in a concert on May 4. Saleh was part of many artistic projects, including the band Baraka and Tamye theater troupe. She collaborated in her most recent album, “Lekhfa”, with Palestinian singer and composer Tamer Abu Ghazaleh and Egyptian electronic music composer Maurice Louca. “Lekhfa’s” world debut live performance was produced by El Genaina in September 2017. “Lekhfa” achieved a booming success on both the local and the international levels.
El Genaina Theater will present new bands to the Egyptian audience such as the young Tunisian band Yuma that managed to gain wide popularity in a relatively short time. In 2017, Yuma won the Audience Award from Journées Musicales de Carthage. Yuma is composed of Sabrine Jenhani and Ramy Zoghlami. Yuma’s first album “Chura” was released in 2016 and their most recent release is “Ghbar Njoum” that was released February 2018.
