CAIRO – 25 March 2018: The prominent underground Egyptian band, Arabish, will perform at El Sawy Culture Wheel on Thursday March 29.
Arabish was formed in 2015 by Wael Nasr, and the band is known for playing Arabic pop rock music. Arabish was inspired by the desire of young people in Arab communities to express themselves. The band uses songs to reflect on the world of Egyptian youth and the issues they face.
The first album by Arabish, "Today I Woke Up" – known in Arabic as "El Nharda Seheet Men El Noom" - discussed issues women face in Arab societies.
Arabish plays music with the aim of inspiring cultural change and attracting attention to social problems facing Arab societies. The band consists of Wael Nasr on guitar and other instruments, alongside vocalists Zeina el Shazly, Habiba Zahran, and Omar el Farouk.
Arabish performed their first concert in 2018 on January 26 at El Sawy Culture wheel. The band has performed a range of concerts at El Sawy Culture Wheel, Bab 18 Art Space, and the AUC Greek Campus.
El-Sawy Culture Wheel is one of the prominent cultural centres in Egypt. This venue is located in Zamalek and has five stages: River Hall, the Wisdom Hall, the Word Hall, the Sakia Garden, and Bostan El-Nil.
The halls are all equipped with cinema screens and various kinds of audiovisual equipment. Three halls are available for hosting workshops and seminars.
