‘The Secrets of Submerged Egypt’ launched in St. Louis

CAIRO – 22 March 2018: Minister of Antiquities Khaled El Anany and the accompanying delegation participated in the World Press Conference, organized by the St. Louis Museum of Art in St. Louis, Missouri, to announce the opening of the temporary exhibition of sunken monuments, “The Secrets of Submerged Egypt", which will last until September 2018.

The conference was attended by Osama Heikal, Chairman of the Committee of Culture, Antiquities and Information in Parliament, and Sahar Talaat Mustafa, Chairman of the Committee of Tourism in Parliament among other foreign and Egyptian media persons and officials.

"The Secrets of Submerged Egypt" exhibition has toured three countries since the beginning of 2015; the city of St. Louis, Missouri, USA, is considered to be the fourth stop of the sunken Egyptian antiquities which include sculptures depicting human beings and gods from ancient times.

The ticket costs a dollar for each.



Al-Anany described the exhibition as a message of peace and civilization, delivered by the Egyptian people to the U.S. inviting them to visit Egypt and witness its remarkable antiquities. He added that the exhibition is considered to be an ideal representative for Egypt abroad.

Heikal also referred in an official statement to the exhibition’s importance in promoting Egyptian tourism and highlighting the distinctiveness of the Egyptian civilization and its cultural diversity.

Moustafa stressed on her keenness to attend the exhibition of sunken monuments not only because it displays the effects of the sunken city of Alexandria but because it also shows Egyptian support for the foreign exhibitions policy.

The pieces show the legends of Osiris and his mysteries, which are among the most important religious legends in ancient Egypt that comprise a large part of Egypt’s civilization and arts.
