CAIRO – 14 March 2018: Rather than screening a traditional film, the Manual Cinema team could introduce a new kind of cinema through its show “Lula Del Ray” for 10-year-old children at Hakawy Arts Festival for Children, in which movies are made on the spot with simple materials, including flat papers, acetate puppets and overhead projectors, mingled with live actors and musicians.

Totally acted without dialogue, with live band and music, a group of puppeteers run slides over a scintillating small screen background across projectors, interacting with live actors whose bodies make a shadow of a puppet on the upper bigger screen, to present their show “Lula Del Ray”.

Directed by Drew Dir, “Lula Del Ray” is about a lonely adolescent girl living in a remote area with her mother on a vast satellite array in the middle of the desert. She becomes obsessed with country music duo The Baden Brothers. Hence, she decides to abandon her life in the remote area for her dreams to attend their concert. Upon reaching the country, she faces many struggles and difficulties, forcing her to return back home.
