Egypt’s Moez street hosts 1st festival of “Egyptian Heritage”

CAIRO - 29 April 2017: The Egyptian Textile Museum hosts this year the “first festival of Egyptian Heritage” in El-Moez street, Sunday, April 30, as part of the celebration of the World Heritage Day.

Elham Salah el-Din, Head of the Museums Sector at the Ministry of Antiquities, noted that this festival highlights “the importance of traditional crafts in preserving the Egyptian identity.”

This festival comes under the patronage of Dr. Khaled el-Anany, Minister of Antiquities, and Ms. Elham Salah, Head of the Museums Sector, Egyptian Textile Museum, in cooperation with the Historic Cairo Administration.

Elham also pointed out that the region of Nubia was chosen as “the guest of honor of the festival” this year, which is why the Nubian Heritage Center and a number of Nubian artists are set to participate in the festival, including the international artist Karam Murad Mohammed, the composer Mohammed Suleiman Daoud, and the poet Abdul Aziz Zine el-Abidine, who is a member of the Association of Composers and Authors in Paris.

Ashraf Abu Al Yazid, Director- General of the Textile Museum, explained that the festival will begin with live performances of various types of traditional crafts presented by the participating artists, such as “Khayamiyah”, carpet making, hand-weaving, wood carving and more. Sufi whirling (Tanoura) dancers and Folk Arts troupes will also give performances.

A diorama of Historic Cairo will also be displayed at el-Rabaa Cultural Center in al-Moez street.
