Restoration of Sayed Ali Zein El Abdeen Shrine, completed

CAIRO- 3 March 2018: Sayed Ali Zein El Abdeen Shrine located in a historical mosque in Sayeda Zeinab district in Cairo has been re-opened on Thursday following renovations conducted by a committee affiliated to the Ministry of Antiquities.

The newly renovated shrine has been inaugurated by Mohamed Abdel Latif assistant to Minister of Antiquities and head of the Islamic and Coptic Antiquities Sector. Other renovations included enhancing the wooden carriage located on the premises of the mosque, according to a released statement by the Ministry of Antiquities.

The renovations were implemented over a 10 months period I efforts to restore the historical and arts value of the mosque’s heritage. The mosque has been built during Al Fattimay era and consists of historical writings that date back to 1154.

The mosque has been previously rebuilt during the period of Ottman king Hassan basha El Salhdan by Prince Othman Agha Mosthfzan who also built a burial chamber for himself and his wife.

The complex of the mosque has been renewed previously during the ruling era of Khedive Ismail where Mohmed Ali Basha restored the mosque and built the metal carriage found inside the mosque. A full expansion and restoration for the mosque has been implemented later in 1999.
