CAIRO – 26 February 2018: “On Boys, Girls and the Veil”, the only documentary film ever directed by Yousry Nasrallah, is to be screened at Cimatheque Alternative Film Center on Tuesday, February 27 and Saturday, March 3.
The film discusses how Egyptians deal with the veil from male and female points of view, as the director conducts a large number of interviews with both genders during which they express freely the financial and social conditions in the country, as well as their reactions towards the veil and love. The film stars famous actor Bassem Samra, and it was his third acting role in his career after a short TV documentary called “Al Qahera Menawara Bi Nasha” and a feature film, also with his friend Nasrallah, called “Mercedes”.
Nasrallah, one of the biggest names in the Arab film directing scene, was born in Giza in 1952. He began his directing career with “Sarikat Sayefeya” (Summer Thefts), and it was a very powerful start, as the film was awarded the Silver Rose Camuna of the Bergamo Film Meeting awards. He is well known for “El Madina” (The City), “Bab El Shams”, “Ehky Ya Shahrazad” and many more, and he was nominated and awarded in many international festivals, such as Cannes Film Festival and All African Film Awards.
The screening will take place at Cimatheque Alternative Film Center, a place that believes in young talents in the film industry, providing a space in which those talents, critics and audiences can exchange ideas with expertise, and also learn about the industry through workshops and movie screenings.
