CAIRO - 27 April 2017: Goethe-Institut, the German cultural center, will hold its annual movie program May 2-9 in Giza and May 2-6 in Alexandria. The program shows a number of new German movies and documentaries, and holds seminars to discuss them.
The movies shown in the program tackle topics such as revolutions, wars, immigration and asylum seekers as well as social topics about family and women's issues.
The opening movie is Egyptian Jeanne D'Arc, an Egyptian-German production which is being screened for the first time in Egypt. It is a hybrid movie that melds documentary with mythic story elements to tell true stories of resistance by Egyptian women since the eruption of revolution in 2011.
Among the other movies shown will be Tony Erdmann, the German comedy nominated for the Oscars this year for the category of best foreign language film.
The event will take place in the new building in Dokki, Giza, and the headquarters of Goethe-Institut in Alexandria. Also, some selected movies will be shown in Minya, Aswan, Damanhur and Ismailia.
