CAIRO – 9 January 2018: Two films directed by the French filmmaker François Truffaut will screen in Cinema Daal on Wednesday. The two films are “Antoine and Colette” (1962) and “Bed And Board” (1970).
The two films belong to a series of five films in which “Antoine and Colette” is the second film while “Bed And Board” is the fourth. The other three films are “The 400 Blows”, “Stolen Kisses” and “Love on the Run”. The five films revolve around Antoine Doinel’s life story which is presented in several stages between his childhood and adulthood.
“Antoine and Colette” is a short film categorized as a comedy drama. The movie presents Doinel at the age of 17 when he was working in a CD factory. He then meets Colette who he falls in love with at first sight.

Hoping to make her fall in love with him, Doinel tries through various ways and attempts to get closer to Colette’s world but she considers him an ordinary friend.
In the long movie “Bed And Board”, Doinel is now married to Christine who is a violin teacher while he is a flower seller. When Christine gets pregnant, he is forced to search for another part time job to support the two of them financially.

He then meets “Kyoko”, the Japanese woman who he falls in love with at first sight. After a while, he discovers his real love for Christine.
Truffaut is considered the 27th greatest director of all time by Entertainment Weekly. He was a film critic before he became a filmmaker. Truffaut was a member of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival in 1962.

It is also worth mentioning that two of his films were nominated for the Golden Globe in the Best Foreign-Language Film category in 1969 when "Stolen Kisses" (1968) and "The Bride Wore Black" (1968) competed against each other and both failed to win the award.
