CAIRO – 9 January 2018: 3elbt Alwan culture hub hosts the Sheikh Imam Workshop which will be conducted by Egyptian musician Maryam Saleh, starting Wednesday January 24.
The workshop will be followed by a summary concert by Maryam Saleh Quartet of Sheikh Imam and the workshop students' choir.
Sheikh Imam is an Arab rebellious icon known for his satirical songs tackling societal issues of the working class. He is an Egyptian musician known for composing sarcastic poems written by late Egyptian poet Ahmed Fouad Negm, also known as "El-Fagoumy".
Reading the workshop’s official invitation, it invites the attendees to Imam’s world, giving them the chance to know about his artistic journey and life experience.

Through taking a closer look into Imam's life, the students will grasp the story behind each song to perform it naturally and add their own identity to the performance. The workshop’s main goal is to help the students develop Imam’s songs instead of being only a basic channel for his art work.

Saleh started her artistic journey as a modernized version of Imam who inspired her since she was young. Her rebellious identity, artistic vision and acting skills are reflected in her performance to all Sheikh Imam’s songs.

Saleh has recomposed various songs for Imam as “Nixon Baba” (Father Nixon), “Wah Ya Abdel Wadoud” (Oh Abd Alwadoud), among others, adding a modern music taste to them through speckled instruments.
